An efficient approximation algorithm for the survivable network design problem

چکیده
The survivable network design problem (SNDP) is to construct a minimum-cost subgraph satisfying certain given edge-connectivity requirements. The first polynomial-t ime approximation algorithm was given by Williamson et al. (Combinatorica 15 (1995) 435454) . This paper gives an improved version that is more efficient. Consider a graph of n vertices and connectivity requirements that are at most k. Both algorithms find a solution that is within a factor 2k 1 of optimal for k ~> 2 and a factor 2 of optimal for k 1. Our algorithm improves the time from O(k3n 4) to O(k2n2 + kn21~dg log n). Our algorithm shares features with those of Williamson et al. (Combinatorica 15 (1995) 435454) but also differs from it at a high level, necessitating a different analysis of correctness and accuracy; our analysis is based on a combinatorial characterization of the " redundant" edges. Several other ideas are introduced to gain efficiency. These include a generalization of Padberg and Rao 's characterization of minimum odd cuts, use of a representation of all minimum (s, t) cuts in a network, and a new priority queue system. The latter also improves the efficiency of the approximation algorithm of Goemans and Williamson (SIAM Journal on Computing 24 (1995) 296 317) for constrained forest problems such as minimum-weight matching, generalized Steiner trees and others. © 1998 The Mathematical Programming Society, Inc. A Fast Strategy to Find Solution for Survivable Multicommodity Network
This paper proposes an immediately efficient method, based on Benders Decomposition (BD), for solving the survivable capacitated network design problem. This problem involves selecting a set of arcs for building a survivable network at a minimum cost and within a satisfied flow. The system is subject to failure and capacity restriction. To solve this problem, the BD was initially proposed with ...

We consider the reliable multi configuration capacitated logistics network design problem (RMCLNDP) with system disruptions, concerned with facilities locating, transportation links constructing, and also allocating their limited capacities to the customers in order to satisfy their demands with a minimum expected total cost (including locating costs, link constructing costs, as well as expecte...
متن کاملFast Approximation Algorithms for the Generalized Survivable Network Design Problem
In a standard f -connectivity network design problem, we are given an undirected graph G = (V,E), a cut-requirement function f : 2 → N, and non-negative costs c(e) for all e ∈ E. We are then asked to find a minimum-cost vector x ∈ N such that x(δ(S)) ≥ f(S) for all S ⊆ V . We focus on the class of such problems where f is a proper function. This encodes many well-studied NP-hard problems such a...
متن کاملA stochastic network design of bulky waste recycling – a hybrid harmony search approach based on sample approximation
Facing supply uncertainty of bulky wastes, the capacitated multi-product stochastic network design model for bulky waste recycling is proposed in this paper. The objective of this model is to minimize the first-stage total fixed costs and the expected value of the second-stage variable costs. The possibility of operation costs and transportation costs for bulky waste recycling is considered ...

We present algorithmic and hardness results for network design problems with degree or order constraints. The first problem we consider is the Survivable Network Design problem with degree constraints on vertices. The objective is to find a minimum cost subgraph which satisfies connectivity requirements between vertices and also degree upper bounds Bv on the vertices. This includes the well-stu...
